Beaver Scouts from across the district came together on Saturday 29th March for the very first Sherlock Shield competition – a brand new event focused on teamwork, problem-solving and plenty of detective work.

Held at 1st Winlaton Headquarters, the day challenged teams to put their skills to the test across a range of activities including code breaking, puzzles, first aid, OS map knowledge and teamwork challenges. After completing each task, teams were rewarded with clues to help them progress through the mystery.

This year’s storyline saw the Beavers take on the role of detectives, tasked with solving the case of a missing 40th anniversary birthday cake. Using their clues, observation skills and teamwork, each group worked hard to uncover who was responsible.

The event wasn’t just about solving the mystery – it was also a fantastic opportunity for Beavers to build confidence, make new friends and enjoy a fun-filled day of activities. In the afternoon, everyone had the chance to relax and get creative with LEGO before gathering together for the final results.

After a closely fought competition, congratulations go to Winlaton’s Team Poirot, who were crowned the first ever winners of the Sherlock Shield.

A huge thank you goes to all the volunteers and Beaver Team Members who helped organise and run the event. The Sherlock Shield has already proven to be a brilliant addition to the district calendar, and we look forward to seeing it grow in the years to come.
