It’s been another fantastic year for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award within Blaydon & District Scouts, with young people continuing to challenge themselves, develop new skills and enjoy some brilliant adventures along the way.
Back in April, 10 young people completed their Silver qualifying expedition in Northumberland, putting their navigation, teamwork and resilience to the test as they completed this important stage of their DofE journey.
Then, in early September, we held one of our biggest DofE weekends yet. A fantastic 18 young people headed out on their Bronze qualifying expedition, while at the same time seven participants undertook their Gold practice expedition in rural Northumberland.
With 25 young people out on expedition over the same weekend, it was fantastic to see participants at different stages of their DofE journeys sharing the same sense of adventure, challenge and achievement.
Of course, an expedition is only one part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Our young people continue to work towards completing their volunteering, physical and skills sections, alongside the additional requirements and residential experience that form part of the Gold Award.
A huge congratulations to everyone who has taken part this year, and a big thank you to the volunteers who give their time to train, support and assess our young people and make these opportunities possible.
We’re incredibly proud to see so many young people within Blaydon & District Scouts taking on the DofE challenge, from their first Bronze expedition right through to Gold.
