We’re aware of a new Scout Group setting up in the local area going by the name of 1st / 2nd Winlaton (Everest) FSE Scout Group.
The Scout Group 1st / 2nd Winlaton (Everest) FSE Scout Group, is NOT part of the Scout Association and is not a member of Blaydon and District Scouts or Durham Scout County. It is an independent Scout Group which operates under the banner of the Federation of European Scouts.
You can find out more about Blaydon & District Scouts below.
Blaydon and District Scouts are part of Durham Scout County and the national Scout Association. The District consists of five Scout Groups at 1st Blaydon, 1st Chopwell, 2nd Crawcrook 1st Ryton and 1st Winlaton. The Scout Association is the largest and only officially recognised Scouting provider in this country, by way of a Royal Charter granted in 1912.
The official Scout Association consists of six sections depending upon age : Squirrels (4 to 6 years), Beavers (6 to 8 years), Cubs (8 to 10.5 years) and Scouts (10.5 to 14.5 years) are based at Scout Groups. The five Scout Groups in the District currently have the following sections:
- 1st Blaydon – Cubs and Scouts
- 1st Chopwell – Beavers, Cubs and Scouts
- 2nd Crawcrook – Beavers, Cubs and Scouts
- 1st Ryton – Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
- 1st Winlaton – Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
There is also a District based Explorer Scout Unit, the Phoenix ESU, for young people aged 14.5 to 18 years based at 1st Blaydon Scout HQ, as well as an active Network section for adults aged 18 to 25 years.
Adult volunteers in the Scout Association are DBS checked and must undertake regular mandatory training in Safeguarding, Safety and First Aid, to ensure that Scouting is provided in the safest environment possible. All five Scout Groups in Blaydon and District, continue to provide exciting opportunities for children and young people which fulfils the Scout Associations mantra of #skills for life.
