This year Family Camp went places, as we held our biggest and best event yet with over 260 people in attendance!
This year’s theme was Hollywood, which allowed all our young people to dress up in their favourite movie and superhero characters with costumes ranging from Star Wars to Fairy-tale Princesses.
The camp started on Friday evening, with the arrival of over 260 people to Dilston Scout Campsite. This included Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network, Leaders, Parents and additional family members. The evening started nice and gentle with a few games, balloon modeling and a walk around the local area.
Saturday is our biggest day on a camp, a whole day of activities between 8 and 10! Activities involved Scout Craft, Rafting, Arts & Crafts, Inflatables, Sports, Challenges and much more! Come the evening, the whole camp joined together for one big wide game followed by our new all singing and all dancing campfire which included sound and light!
The highlight of Saturday evening was 260 people singing along to Frozen’s Let It Go before watching a firework display take to the sky.
Sunday saw the arrival of new activities onsite including a mobile climbing wall, ice cream van and crazy creatures! All activities proved very popular with a huge cue forming to get a free ice cream!
Sadly the fantastic weekend had to come to a close, but not before members were presented with a camp badge which had been designed by Scout Jack Robson and turned into a real life badge (see comparison below).
Youth Commissioner Jamie Ion said ‘Year on year we improve the camp experience for our young people by listening to their ideas and feedback and make changes to suit. This year, we made a number of changes to the event which went down very well with our young people.’
