Last Sunday, 100 young people and adults from across our district took part in our St George’s Day event by parading from Ryton Rugby Club to Centenary Church, carrying with pride our group and district flags. Also present was our St George’s Cross which was paid for by Blaydon & District Rotary club in 1983.
At the church, we joined the congregation with standing room only, and took part in a short service dedicated to Scouting and St George.
There was also a short section where our District Commissioner spoke about Scouting, but in particular, spoke about rewarding adults including our volunteers who were at Windsor the same weekend. She proceeded to present a Silver Acorn award to Kit Carson, 5 year service award to Joseph Jensen and an award for merit to Richard Connor. All members of Scouting and Guiding also renewed their promise on this significant day.
