Back on the 9th June 2015, two of our fantastic adult volunteers were taking part in the annual Blaydon Race with hundreds of others, when suddenly, things took a turn for the worse. Beaver Leaders Ruth Stokes & Liz Clayton both witnessed a gentleman collapse during the run. They took quick action getting help and placing the gentleman into the recovery position. When further help arrived, they carried on, and both successfully completed the Blaydon Race. It turns out that the gentleman was suffering from a heart attack, and due to the quick thinking of Ruth, Liz and other runners, the gentleman managed to make a full recovery!
In light of this, both Ruth and Liz have been presented their ‘Chief Scout’s Personal Award’ by Bear Grylls. This is a highly prestigious award which we are proud to see in our District – they also get a special badge to wear on their adult uniforms! Well done to both of you!
