On Sunday 26th April, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers gathered with Leaders, parents and supporters from every corner of our District to commence a parade with Section flags, making their way (off the busy main road) to Centenary Church, Crawcrook.
The St George Flag paraded, was paid for by the Rotary club – Blaydon & District in 1983 and we had members of their association present during this event.
The congregation welcomed our large presence and we filled the entire ground floor seating area. It was noted we had over 80 people in attendance for this special service.
The evening service saw the Rev David Proud receiving all our Sections Flags from around the District and then followed a service dedicated to Scouts & St George.
Our District Commissioner, Helen Laird – was asked to speak to the congregation and the Scout members. She expressed her thanks to all Scout Association members on being there and how proud she was of their attendance, Helen was proud to award a Long Service Award to Colin Hurst – 1st Blaydon Scout Leader for 20 years service and was delighted to surprise two leaders with the award of their wood badges – congratulations go to Simon Babb ( Assistant Explorer Scout Leader) and Liz Clayton ( Beaver Scout Leader)
Helen commented that earning your Wood badge is a very high achievement and is in keeping with Lord Baden Powell’s first Scout master camp in 1919.
After the service concluded; all Scout members were invited to enjoy refreshments and enjoy a time of reflection, chat and catch up with those in the District you don’t see too often.
Well done to everyone who attended and sincere thanks for your support are extended from you District Commissioner.
