Summer camp was the usual mix of exciting on-site activities and days out. This year the Troop – accompanied by two Explorer Scouts – decided to go to Blackwell Adventure, which is at Blackwell Court and is the County camp site for Birmingham Scout County.
It’s the former ‘home’ of two of our ex-Brummie leaders but the site has been redeveloped and, along with the Pikes Pool site, has a lot of great activities to offer.

This year Blaydon District Scouts took part in world donor day. It’s a day when people all over come together to give blood. Within the District we held a competition to try and get young people to sign their family and friends up to give blood. Each young person from each group was given 5 entry forms to sign someone up to give blood. Each new donor gained the group 3 points whilst an existing member gained 1 point.

1st Winlaton Scout Troop continues to meet throughout the school holidays, breaking only for Christmas and for a week while on summer camp. During the long summer holidays the Troop plans a more flexible programme, with a focus on making the best use of the long summer evenings and (hopefully) fine weather.
On the 7th august 2010, 1st Chopwell Scout Group officially turned 80 years old. Throughout the 80 years Chopwell Scouts have served the community well and now cater for all ages within the Scouting movement. The group was originally founded on the 7th August 1930 by a man called John Harrison Walton. He was the group’s first Group Scout leader, and was followed by John Wills and then by Brian Wilson. The latest group Scout leader is Brian Stubbs, who many within the District will know.
