1st Winlaton Scout Group has a very active Scout Troop , meeting from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday evenings. The Scout Troop meet every Tuesday including school holidays, with the exception of Christmas. Our membership is drawn from Winlaton and the surrounding area, with Scouts from Winlaton, Rowlands Gill, High Spen, Greenside, Blaydon and further afield.
We provide a wide variety of outdoor activities including camping (with three or more camps a year) and recent activities have included hiking, climbing and abseiling, raft building, pioneering, high ropes challenges, beach barbecues, bivouacs, archery, tomahawk throwing and many more. This is balanced with an indoor programme based around Tuesday evening Troop meetings and which includes activities like first aid, community involvement, environmental and international issues.
As well as having fun, the Scout Troop helps young people to become more confident, self-reliant and considerate. Scouts is open to boys and girls from the age of 10½ until their 14th birthday (with some flexibility on ages) and we currently have places available. To find out more about Scouts in Winlaton and surrounding areas and to enquire about joining, please e-mail winlatonscouts@yahoo.com
